Put modern tires on the C5 and see what happens.

Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 did it in 7:56. Driven by Dave Hill in 2008. So a six/seven year old car was only six seconds slower than the latest Civic Type R.
Honda Civic Type R did it in 8:46. Driven by Horst von Sauma in 2001.
It's all relative. I'm with James May on this one.

I seem to have left my fucks somewhere, but I can't find them.
And yes, I'm well aware you're trolling.

And how much of that time difference is just in the near 20 year disparity in tire technology?

Who did the lap in the c5? what was the setup of the Civic? Was it on slicks?
FYI a stock 2008 r35 GTR with stock wheels did 7min54, so highly doubt the Civic was on street tires.
Also the C5 laptime is rounded to the nearest second probably based on a video done by an amateur. Not really comparable in anyway to a lap record done by a professional racer most likely on slick tires with an entire factory team behind him :)

Nah the 2015 Civic was probably on slicks. An 08 r35 gtr on street tires with a professional driver at the wheel did 7.54. No way the civic went faster on street tires also.

How about C7 Z06 vs Civic Type-R

And it had some type of roll cage. The video footage is also questionable.
